While her brother was earning good grades and making a name for himself, Halia was much more content sitting out back in the old gazebo and watching the rain fall or laying out on the grass, watching the stars. She truly believed that she lived in the most beautiful place on earth and didn't want the experience to go to waste. Her parents thought the only thing she was wasting was her life. She cruised through high school like so many of her peers, counting the hours until she could hit the beach. The only part of school she really cared about was Hawaiian Studies. Having been taught hula by her father, she was a natural when it came to the dance and even landed the role of lead dancer in the final performance. From that moment, she knew she wanted to be a hula dancer. This worried her parents as they thought she could do so much more with her life than dance around in a skimpy outfit. Halia didn't care though. She knew hula was much more than that and she wanted to prove to her parents that it was a respectable career. She took a job at the hotel dancing in nightly shows as a starting point, determined to some day make it into the big leagues. Her determination inadvertantly turned her into a responsible young woman. She hasn't made a fortune with her career, but it does pay the bills and she knows that it's only a matter of time before she goes from dancing in hotel shows to something much bigger. personality: On the one hand, Halia can be completely uptight. Her brother would put it best by saying she has a stick up her ass. She hates when people don't fill up the ice trays or pull crap out after she's put it away. But on the other hand, she is a free spirit begging to come out. She secretly wishes she could still be the hippie that spent her days playing in the waterfalls and nights sleeping under the stars. If the air is cool and she's in the right company, that old her will come out and it will become obvious that she's not nearly as happy now as she was back in the day. But one thing that will never change is her warm heart. Even though they drive her nuts more often than not, she loves her family and friends and there isn't anything in the world that she wouldn't do for them. She has a naturally sweet demeanour that manages to get strewed by real life, but it always manages to shine through when it matters the most. |
